Tips For Kids To Learn Tennis

By Davis Pete

Tennis is an excellent sporting activity which is easily embraced by most people. It gives a good hearty exercise while at the same time provides an element of challenge and competition which feeds into the natural instinct of mankind. Young people such as kids will find tennis very fun and enjoyable to play. It is a sport which is quite easy to learn. Nevertheless, it depends on how well the tennis coach is able to communicate and connect with the kids when conducting the tennis lessons. In short, tennis lessons for kids would be more fun and less serious as compared to that for older people.

In Singapore, we have many tennis courts and tennis centers for one to play the game. Hence, there should not be an issue when it comes to finding a tennis court. The main so-called problem would be in identifying the right coach for the kid or kids. A good tennis coach is able to motivate and make the kids enjoy learning the game. The kids should look forward to the tennis lesson and find it a bore. The coach must be able to get the kids to swing at the ball initially without getting too technical at this stage. Kids group lessons can be a good place to start as kids like to follow their peers in learning new things.

Learning together with other kids alongside them can be a good place to start. However, if your child shows a strong aptitude and interest in the sport of tennis, you may also wish to give him individual tennis lessons to speed up his learning of the game. Learning correct techniques and the rules of the game are important at a young stage. Kids will be able to learn the game faster if they were to take part in some age group tennis tournaments.

As part of teaching the game, the coach must also emphasize the rules of the game such as hitting the ball after one bounce. If not you will lose a point to your opponent. Along with this is also teaching the rules of the game such as the where the balls must land or where the ball will be called out etc.

If your child is talented and shows promising talent for the game, you should let him or her mature into the game, rather than force them to do well. Putting undue pressure on the child may break him mentally and physically as the child's body is not yet ready for such heavy duty punishment. In summary, it is better to let him enjoy the game and see how things transpires.
